Who Can Participate?

Any player residing in Cheshire or attending school in Cheshire who meets the age requirements is eligible to participate in the club’s U-9/U-10 programs.

Fall & Spring Outdoor Seasons

During both the fall and spring outdoor seasons U-9 and U-10 players are assigned to teams participating in the club’s U-9/U-10 recreational in-house leagues. There are separate leagues for both boys & girls. Scores of games are NOT kept.

Teams practice once a week; play one game a week on Saturdays; and, are coached by parent volunteers. There are 11 or 12 players per team and games are played with only seven (7) field players and a goalkeeper.

The purpose of small-sided games is to maximize the number of touches that each player will have with the ball and the number of opportunities each player will have to experience and learn from the decision making process that necessarily accompanies those touches.

In addition to participation in the U-9/U-10 in-house leagues a limited number of U-10 players are invited to participate in the club's U-10 Developmental Pool Program. A more detailed description of the U-10 Developmental Pool Program is available on the club's website.

      Winter Indoor Season

U-9 and U-10 players can participate in a once a week U-9/U-10 instructional program held at the CFC Arena on Sherman Avenue in Hamden. The indoor season is divided into two sessions; November to mid-January and mid–January to March. Players may participate in either one or both sessions.

The emphasis during the winter instructional program is on the development of foot skills and each practice is generally divided equally between lessons and scrimmages.

Boys and girls teams are also formed to participate in the inter-club Oakwood Indoor Soccer Leagues at the U-9/U-10 age division.

Players may choose to participate in ONLY the instructional program. Those choosing to play in the league are expected to participate also in the instructional program as there are no separate team practices.

Each winter a few U-10 players are invited to play with a U-11 age division team entered in the inter-club leagues at the Oakwood Sports Center in addition to their U-9/U-10 team. The number of players invited is dependent upon roster openings in the older age division and, the readiness of the players themselves to meet the additional challenge. U-10 players playing on a U-11 team are expected to meet all responsibilities to their U-10 team and their will be an additional fee for playing with the U-11 team.

Our Expectations of Players & Parents

The club recognizes that children at U-10 are involved in many different activities that often result in conflicts. Players absent from practice are NOT prohibited from playing games on Saturdays.

However, it is expected that parents will advise the coach of a player’s absence well in advance of any game that the player will miss. This simple courtesy will allow the coach to deal with any situation where the team may find itself shorthanded.
